I do not live in Austin Texas but I was required to get an SR22? Why?

Good Question,
When you operate a vehicle in Texas and you are licensed and a resident from a different state you still are required to follow to the laws of the state in which you are driving in.
So if you got convicted of traffic violation while out of your home state you are subject to the penalties to that state where you violated the law. So if you broke a law in Texas which according to their laws requires you now to carry an SR-22 vehicle insurance then even though you reside from a different state you need to comply with their insurance law and maintain this since when you drive your automobile in their state you subjected yourself to their laws.
Some states may not require you to get and file an SR-22 vehicle insurance form but most states does require an SR22 vehicle insurance even if you do not live in that state. Keep in mind that that as you drive throughout the United States you are subject to the laws of the different states which you drive in.
